The thundering roar of ground-pounding modified cars will again fill the Wilkesboro mountains in October, as North Wilkesboro Speedway officials announced on Friday that the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic will headline a tripleheader of racing on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The Friendly Tire 99 will serve as the SMART Tour’s championship-deciding season finale, with NASCAR legend Ryan Newman among those slated to compete. The spectacular, one-day showcase of short-track stardom also includes the Carolina Crate Modified Series’ Northwest Automotive 62 and the Carolina Mini-Stocks’ Broadway Collision 30 presented by Better Homes Furniture Company — providing the no-holds-barred action race fans deserve on an autumn Saturday at North Wilkesboro.
“We’re thrilled to have the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic back at one of racing’s most historic tracks,” said North Wilkesboro Speedway Executive Director Graig Hoffman. “Pair the SMART Mod stars engaging in wheel-to-wheel combat in their season finale with the Carolina Crate Modifieds and the Carolina Mini-Stocks, and it’s one of the best tickets in short-track racing. Fans are going to be in for a real show when we go green in October.”
Carter McMurray — the son of 2014 NASCAR All-Star Race winner Jamie McMurray — is scheduled to take part in the Carolina Crate Modified race alongside Newman’s daughter, Brooklyn, and a collection of racing’s rising stars on the iconic, five-eighths-mile oval.
Tickets for the three-race showcase start at just $10 for kids 12 and under, and $30 for adults. Trackside camping is also available, along with Turn 4 Premium seating. The festivities on Oct. 17 also include the seventh annual Moonshiners & Racer’s Reunion, which returns to North Wilkesboro Speedway for a vintage car show and a meet-and-greet with some of stock car racing’s early car owners, crew chiefs and moonshine-running pioneers.
